Creating a Better Shawl

Shawls have always been a popular choice for warmth and fashion, but they tend to slip off the shoulders unless pinned or tied, and fail to cover most of the wearer’s back.

My V-shaped shawls are created by weaving two rectangular front panels together at a right angle while still on the loom. This produces a garment with panels (22 inches wide) on the front that stay put and a back shaped like a poncho (36 inches from neckline to tapered bottom). In addition the striped front becomes a beautiful unexpected plaid on the back as the 200, multicolored threads cross over each other. A shawl with a surprise! It stays put and you stay warm.
